Assyrian Gallery: Khorsabad and Anatolia
Objects from the ancient Anatolian kingdom of the Hittites are arranged in this area of the museum. The large free-standing case contains examples of the characteristic red-burnished pottery from the second millennium B.C. Painted Phrygian ware (9th century B.C.) is exhibited in the wall cases. A relief from the palace of the Assyrian king Sargon II (721-705 B.C.) is mounted on the wall to the right of the pottery display. Across the gallery is a cast of a relief from the Hittite shrine at Yazilikaya.
